In the summer of 2022, I found myself at a loose end, so my dad suggested I look into volunteering with a charity or initiative. That’s when I stumbled upon a local charity in Hong Kong that was doing incredible work handing out gifts, snacks, and food to families struggling with living conditions. It was a bit nerve-wracking, to be honest, because I’d never done anything like it before. But I decided to give it a shot. On the day I volunteered, we packed up all the goodies into these bright red bags and headed out to visit families in need. As we went from home to home, handing out the gift packets, something struck me. It wasn’t just the size of their homes that caught my attention; it was how cluttered and inefficient the spaces were. I wanted to say something, to suggest ways they could rearrange things to make more space, but I held back. Still, by the end of the day, I felt really proud of what I did. But I also couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more I could do. That’s when the idea hit me: what if I could create space-saving furniture tailored specifically to their needs? So, I got together with a few close friends, and we went back to some of the families we’d visited before. We talked to them, asked them questions, and really listened to what they had to say. And that’s how we came up with our first product—a multipurpose piece of furniture that acted as a folding table, storage for utensils, and a large cabinet, all stackable to fit their high ceilings. It took weeks of hard work and lots of trial and error, but when we finally delivered it to the family, it felt amazing. Now, we’re on a mission to help as many families as we can, one piece of furniture at a time.
